Climate change represents the grandest of challenges facing humanity. In the space of two centuries of industrial development, human civilization has changed the chemistry of the atmosphere and oceans with devastating consequences. Business organizations are central to this challenge, in that they support the production of escalating greenhouse gas emissions but also offer innovative ways to decarbonize our economies. Students will explore the impact of climate change on business, examine corporate and governmental responses to climate change, and evaluate alternative forms of organizing to address the challenge of climate change.

On successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. Develop an understanding of the risks associated with climate change for business, and society more broadly
2. Critically assess the inter-relationship between business and their natural, social and economic environments
3. Identify and apply theoretical frameworks to analyze climate change related issues, such as, adaptation and mitigation
4. Evaluate planning and management strategies, policies and practices designed to mitigate and adapt to climate change
5. Work independently and collaboratively to develop recommendations to address climate change in producing more sustainable futures

- Alternative forms of organizing: Corporations and communities.
- Imagining alternatives: Future businesses
