Description

Practical experiences in exercise assessment and prescription for clients with chronic disease is important to prepare students for transition into an exercise physiologist role in private or public health care practice. EXSS6210, EXSS6220, EXSS6230 allow students to observe the health care environment and have guided opportunities to develop the skills of an exercise physiologist. Specifically, these skills will include development of clinical reports and communication skills, as well as assessment and exercise design and delivery in population groups with common or complex conditions. During the practicum students will have the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge learnt in the pathology areas of the accredited exercise physiologist. Students will also gain practical insights into health care systems that support exercise physiologists and other health care providers. Students will be expected to complete a 1 hour online activity per fortnight and record experiences demonstrating critical reflection of practice. The placement will be for a minimum of 120 hours in one of the following practice domains of cardiovascular, metabolic or musculoskeletal or another priority condition.
