Description

EPPREP920 is a preparatory course for students intending to commence their undergraduate mathematical studies in MATH1002 Foundational Studies in Mathematics. The course assumes a high level of competency in numeracy and algebra at Stage 4 level (Year 7 and 8), and revises topics in algebra, graphing and trigonometry at the Stage 5 level (Year 9 and 10) to ensure students entering MATH1002 have a strong foundation in those areas.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course students will be able to:

1. Apply the distributive law to expand or factorise algebraic expressions

2. Recognise perfect squares and difference of squares, in expanded and factored form

3. Simplify expressions involving algebraic fractions

4. Solve equations by changing the subject of the formula

5. Calculate with surds in exact form

6. Use Pythagoras' Theorem and trigonometry to find unknown sides and angles in right angled triangles

7. Recognise the equations and graphs of straight lines and parabolas

8. Solve quadratic equations by factoring or by using the quadratic formula

Requisite

This course is only available to domestic students enrolled in NUPrep Bridging and Refresher [22223].
