Larapinta Trail Challenge
Larapinta Trail Challenge - August 2017
Twenty-seven volunteer champions from our alumni, community members, students and staff trekked 65km of the Larapinta Trail in Central Australia in August 2017. They aimed to raise $150,000 to support Indigenous students and research into Indigenous community health initiatives. The University of Newcastle is proud to lead the way in Indigenous education.
We have graduated a third of the country’s Indigenous doctors, and we also have the largest number of Indigenous students of any Australian university. We recently celebrated the remarkable success of the Wollotuka Institute's accreditation by the World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium – an Australian first. We are organising this challenge as part of our commitment to excellence in Indigenous education, equity and social justice.
Our trekkers and supporters will have a lasting impact on projects that transform lives. You can still donate to the Larapinta Trail Challenge - please show your support and donate today!
What will my impact be?
This isn’t just any trek. 100% of the money raised will support Indigenous education, health, research and community initiatives led by UON.
The funds raised may contribute to:
- Research into chronic Indigenous health issues
- Supporting Indigenous students through scholarships
- Supporting future Indigenous leaders of our community
