The University of Newcastle, Australia

Paul Munro collection

Paul Munro’s generous gift represents a personal commitment to equity of access to higher education. All donated works are for sale with proceeds assisting talented students in need.

This collection of paintings by Munro encompasses his time working at the University of Newcastle from 1991. Many in our community will remember Paul in his Employee Relations role, but also as an avid painter and creator of painted objects.

Paul Munro retired from the University in early 2016 and immediately began working with UON to create a generous and impactful gift through the donation of the Paul Munro collection. All funds raised from the sale of the collection will create the Paul Munro Shaping Futures Scholarship in Visual Arts for dedicated students who are in need of financial support to achieve their academic dreams.

For over two decades, Paul Munro has practiced as a painter. He is known for works that carefully observe the landscape, for compositions that attempt to comprehend the minutiae of nature, and for paintings that appear like fragments fallen out of an unknown world. Over time, his vision has shifted from more realistic representations to abstract interpretations – from a broader vision to one that is concerned with detailed introspection. Munro’s recent work continues to explore the texture, range and adaptability of paint and reflects a practice which is sound, joyful and eclectic.

This is your chance to own a Munro and help share Paul’s commitment to equity of access to higher education for talented students in need.
