Great China Walk
UON GREAT CHINA WALK
As part of the University's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2015 a team of passionate alumni, community members, UON staff and students took part in an adventure of a lifetime, walking 50 kilometres along the Great Wall of China - all in the name of raising funds for scholarships to help disadvantaged students.
The UON Great China Walk 'champions' raised more than $80,000 for Shaping Futures Scholarships, which support students who are facing hardship.
Not only did our brave volunteers embark on an exciting adventure along one of the world's ancient wonders but with every step they took and every stair they climbed, they helped bring a needy student one step closer to achieving their degree by raising funds for this worthwhile cause.
The University of Newcastle is proud of our links with China - one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Here at UON we have more than 7,000 international students - 80 per cent of which come from China. We are also proud to have a Confucius Institute at UON, which plays a major role in developing and strengthening our educational and cultural exchange and cooperation with China and enhancing our institutional and research links to Asia.
