Creative lab

The School of Creative Industries Community Music Program is opening up its studio’s and music production spaces to form a new Creative Lab. Our new Creative Lab courses are the most progressive creative offerings in NSW – and are available for only $14 per week.

Please find the below course overviews and booking links:

  • Creative ECM –school years 1 -2: Thursdays 4:00 – 4:40, at the Con, RM 201
  • Creative Play – school year 3 – 5: Thursdays 5:00 – 5:50 at the Con, RM 201
  • Creative Projects - school years 6 – 9: Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:30 at the Con, RM 201
  • Creative Producers – school years 10 – 12, Wednesdays 5:30 – 7:00 at the Con, RM 201

Creative Early Childhood Music

This course is suitable for school students in Years 1 and 2 and runs each week, during the term, at the Conservatorium of Music.

No experience is required - just a curiosity to get creative and a passion for having fun through music!

Participation in a music program during a child's early years enhances listening skills, concentration and academic ability, as well as social skills and self-confidence.

In this course, students will develop vocal, instrumental, and aural skills, through the use of enjoyable games, songs, movement, creating, listening and playing activities.

The course runs each Thursday afternoon from 4:00pm - 4:40pm commencing Thursday 27th February until Thursday 9th April 2020.

Creative Play

course is suitable for primary school students in Years 3-5 and runs each week (during term) at the Conservatorium of Music.

The course runs each Thursday afternoon from 5:00pm - 5:50pm commencing Thursday 27th February until Thursday 9th April 2020.

Creative Projects (school years 6 -9)

This weekly Creative Lab course will enable young people to experienceexplore and interact with creative technology in a playful and explorative environment. Building on the diverse strengths and abilities of each student, participants will develop a creative project using cutting edge music production equipment and software, while accessing the recording studios and creative spaces of the Conservatorium of Music. No experience is required - just a curiosity to get creative!

This course is suitable for students in Years 6 - 9 and runs each week at the Conservatorium of Music.

In the course, students will:

  • Learn and use music recording and production software such as
  • Ableton Live as well as the huge lab of Ableton Push on offer
  • Record audio in a studio environment
  • Experiment with robots
  • Try synthesisers
  • Produce and publish music
  • Learn sound design and music production techniques & VR 360 performance concepts
  • and so much more…

The sessions will be based around:

  • Play, exploration and hands on learning in a supportive environment
  • Facilitating informal learning opportunities where connections between home, school, and community are enabled and encouraged
  • Collaborative learning where educators and students pool their skills and knowledge to maximise teaching and learning
  • Developing a culture of creating as opposed to consuming

The course runs each Wednesday afternoon from 4pm – 5:30 pm commencing Wednesday 26th February until Wednesday 8th April 2020.

Creative Producers (school years 10 – 12)

The course is suitable for high school students in Years 10-12 and runs each week, during the school term, at the Conservatorium of Music.

The course runs each Wednesday afternoon from 5:30pm - 7:00pm commencing Wednesday 26th February until Wednesday 8th April 2020.

In the course, students will:

  • Learn and use music recording and production software such as
