Thank you for taking the time to help us celebrate the incredible achievements of our alumni.

We have a new nomination process. Please provide a brief persuasive statement of no more than 200 words, outlining the achievements, impact and contribution of the nominee. Self-nominations are permitted.

Nominations close on Monday 20 April 2020.

All submissions will be reviewed and shortlisted nominations will be invited to progress through to the next stage of the process, requiring the completion of a 1500 – 2500 word nomination form by Monday 11 May 2020.

The Alumni Medal for Professional Excellence

The Alumni Medal for Professional Excellence recognises outstanding excellence in leadership, knowledge and professional practice. The Alumni Medal for Professional Excellence is the highest honour of the University’s Alumni Excellence Awards.

Nominees must comply with the following selection criteria

  • Hold a minimum undergraduate Bachelor degree from the University of Newcastle
  • Demonstrate substantial and significant professional contribution to the global community through the following:
    • Leadership, recognition and standing within their field or profession
    • Advancement of knowledge including research and development in the related knowledge context
    • Advancement of professional practice.

Newton-John Alumni Medal

The Newton-John Alumni Medal recognises innovation and creativity of alumni who have achieved excellence in arts, creative sectors and culture.

Nominees must comply with the following selection criteria

  • Hold a minimum undergraduate Bachelor degree from the University of Newcastle
  • Demonstrate innovation or creativity in any field with the emphasis on originality, longevity, cultural and/or social value to the community.

Indigenous Alumni Award

The Indigenous Alumni Award recognises alumni whose outstanding contribution has demonstrated engagement and impact working with Australian Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander communities.

Nominees must comply with the following selection criteria

  • Hold a minimum undergraduate Bachelor degree from the University of Newcastle
  • Demonstrate outstanding achievement and/or contribution made by an Indigenous graduate in their chosen field, that has made an impact on Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Only nominees who have established Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status will be considered for this award.

Beryl Nashar Young Researcher Award

The Beryl Nashar Young Researcher Award recognises the emerging research accomplishments of early- and mid-career alumni researchers.

  • Hold a minimum undergraduate Bachelor degree from the University of Newcastle
  • Be aged 35 years or younger at the time of nomination
  • Demonstrate outstanding achievement and/or contribution to any field of research.

International Leadership Award

The International Leadership Award recognises and honours globally based alumni who have excelled in their chosen field with international influence and whose achievements enhance the prestige of the University of Newcastle.

  • Hold a minimum undergraduate Bachelor degree from the University of Newcastle
  • Be aged over 35 years at the time of nomination
  • Demonstrate leadership and/or entrepreneurship at an international level, in a non-academic sector.

National Leadership Award

The Alumni Award for National Leadership requires demonstration of leadership and/or entrepreneurship initiatives with national reach, either in Australia or overseas.

  • Be aged over 35 years at the time of nomination

Regional Leadership Award

The Alumni Award for Regional Leadership requires demonstration of leadership and/or entrepreneurship initiatives with regional reach, either in Australia or overseas.

  • Hold a minimum undergraduate Bachelor degree from the University of Newcastle
  • Be aged over 35 years at the time of nomination
  • Demonstrate leadership and/or entrepreneurship at a regional level, in a non-academic sector.

Young Alumni Award

The Young Alumni Award recognises outstanding achievements and contributions by alumni (under-35 years of age) who have demonstrated an outstanding level of professional achievement and community involvement since graduating from the University of Newcastle.

Nominees must comply with the following selection criteria

  • Hold a minimum undergraduate Bachelor degree from the University of Newcastle
  • Be aged 35 years or younger at the time of nomination
  • Demonstrate outstanding achievement and/or contribution to any field; OR
  • Demonstrate initiative and excellence in any other endeavour.
  • This award is for non-academic/research alumni. Academic and researchers should nominate for the Beryl Nashar Young Researcher award.
