2018 Finalist - Mr Damien Mahoney, Graduate Diploma in Education 1997, Bachelor of Arts (Communication Studies) 1992

Damien Mahoney got the idea for his multi-million dollar business, Stackla, while working as a consultant for the National Rugby League. His idea was to create a platform that aggregates User-Generated Content about a single event from multiple social media channels and then integrate that into the marketing strategy for the event.

Damien went on to build Stackla from scratch in Sydney, before moving the company to San Francisco in 2015 to lead the global expansion of the business. By 2016, the start-up had raised over $10 million in investments. The company now has offices in Sydney, San Francisco and London, and serves over 450 clients globally including McDonalds, Manchester United, RedBull, Comcast, British Labor Party, Toyota, Shell, ANZ, Telstra, Qantas and Vogue. As a result of Stackla’s innovative approach to content marketing, the company was named the first and only Australian Twitter Technology Partner. He is also the founder of Pillar Digital, which creates digital websites, designs and applications for tier one sports brands.

In his past life, Damien was a sports broadcaster, calling AFL matches for Triple M and the ABC, and held senior digital positions and consulting roles with the National Rugby League.
