Severe weather: Callaghan campus to close on Tuesday 23/3; Ourimbah, Taree, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour sites to remain closed
Monday, 22nd March 2021 - 4:53pm
Location: Newcastle (Callaghan), Central Coast (Ourimbah), Port Macquarie, Taree
Given the continuing severe weather and NSW government advice, our campuses at Callaghan, Ourimbah, Taree, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour will be closed tomorrow.
Any classes due to happen on-site at these locations will be cancelled. Students should liaise with their course coordinators about arrangements related to cancelled classes. They will NOT need to submit an adverse circumstances request.
Callaghan campus will close at 11.59pm tonight. The other sites above will remain closed. We have made this decision based on the combination of forecast weather conditions, existing campus conditions and the recommendation by Transport for NSW to avoid travel. One of our significant concerns is the wet grounds and forecast winds.
All facilities, including libraries, childcare centres and The Forum at Callaghan campus will be closed. The Forum (Harbourside) will be open.
Staff have been encouraged to work from home or from NUspace, where possible. At Callaghan and Ourimbah, only essential staff will be allowed on site. The University has notified staff of these arrangements via email.
We will provide an update before 4pm on Tuesday 23 March about arrangements for Wednesday.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
