International Women's Day 2019

The University of Newcastle is a proud supporter of International Women's Day on 8 March every year.

The 2019 campaign theme Balance for Better is an opportunity for UON and its broader community to help forge a more gender inclusive university and working world.

IWD is an opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women here at UON and around the world. It’s a day to acknowledge and celebrate the significant change and attitudinal shift in both women's and society's thoughts about women's equality and liberation.

What's on at UON?

In 2016, Newcastle Law School’s Dr Kcasey McLoughlin wrote: “Once we accept that a more diverse judiciary is a better judiciary, we are able to have important conversations about the scope and content of reforms which might then secure a truly diverse judiciary”.

University staff are invited to join colleagues on IWD 2019 to hear from Kcasey and our Women in STEMM Chair, Professor Billie Bonevski about why balance drives a better working world and to continue important conversations about how we can help create better balance.
