The Don McNair Herbarium collection is a critical resource to assist in our understanding of the human and environmental pressures being placed on the flora of the region.
It provides a factual record of plant distribution over time, highlighting changes.
It supports research, teaching and community education.
It provides an important source of DNA of the flora of the region.
Don Mc Nair’s unique gift to The University of Newcastle and the people of the Hunter was a history of the flora of the Hunter, Central Coast regions of NSW and Australia’s arid regions, through the specimens he collected along with the other personal collections given to him from community members. If you wish to support The Don McNair Herbarium to continue its work in recording and preserving the floral record of these regions either download the attached flyer or contact The University of Newcastle Foundation to Give a Unique Gift.
