About the School of Information and Physical Sciences
The School of Information and Physical Sciences is a vibrant hub for research and teaching in the College of Engineering, Science and Environment.
The School offers a range of sought-after programs in its own disciplines and also provides discipline expert teaching in a large number of programs across the University.
In response to the demand for graduates with quantitative and analytical skills, we have a range of flexible degree options for students to tailor their studies.
Welcome from the Head of School
Associate Professor Karen Blackmore
With the world's attention narrowing in on the growing STEMM fields, the School of Information and Physical Sciences (SIPS) has placed itself right at the heart of this global phenomenon.
If you join SIPS as a student, you will have the opportunity to study a range of flexible degree options that draw from key STEMM areas such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science and Physics. The programs and courses available are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen field, or be transferred and adapted to open up exciting career opportunities in industries such as finance, defence, manufacturing, research, education, government and politics and many more.
In terms of research, our applied mathematics, statistics, physical sciences and astronomical and space sciences fields were ranked as 'well above world standard' in the recent ERA rankings, cementing SIPS' place as one of the University of Newcastle's strongest performing schools.
Whether you are interested in one of our programs or our research, please do not hesitate to contact us.
