Centre for Practice Opportunity and Development (CPOD)

Centre for Practice Opportunity and Development

The purpose of the Centre for Practice Opportunity and Development (CPOD) is to facilitate, support and conduct clinically based Inter Professional Practice (IPP), translational and evaluation research, and to build research capacity amongst nurses and midwives across the local health district.

CPOD is multifaceted in form and function. The Centre exists within the HNELHN and has considerable operational autonomy to pursue its objectives. The functional organisation of the centre is largely project specific. CPOD is governed by a multi/service/agency agreement, which includes the University of Newcastle, HNELHD and University of New England.

The centre will:

  • Facilitate critical enquiry, evidence based practice and research strategically aligned to local, state, national and international health priorities;
  • Collaborate with clinicians and academics, advancing research knowledge, utilisation and participation across a range of clinical settings and contexts;
  • Provide leadership, stewardship, advice, supervision and support to nurses to publish and present research findings locally, nationally and internationally; and
  • Lead interprofessional research initiatives.
