Nursing and Midwifery Society

University of Newcastle Nursing and Midwifery Society (UNNMS)

Since the School of Nursing and Midwifery formed at the University of Newcastle, there have been various groups to support nursing students. The University of Newcastle Nursing and Midwifery Society (UNNMS) was founded in 2015, with the aim of building an inclusive nursing community at the University, where current students are actively supported and engaged in university life. The UNNMS exists across all three campuses and actively facilitates cross-campus interactions.

A variety of events and activities are run by UNNMS throughout the year. These promote student involvement in university beyond the classroom, while providing opportunities to contribute to both University of Newcastle and the community. A particular focus of UNNMS is to network current students with other students, staff and potential employers, in order to build social connections as well as ease the transition from university into the workforce.

The UNNMS organises many educational and volunteer opportunities for students, where they can explore the many options they will have when graduating armed with a degree from the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

An important role of UNNMS is to act as an advocate for nursing students. UNNMS provides representation at various levels, ensuring the student voice is heard by the Newcastle University Student Representatives, Faculty of Health and Medicine, and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

UNNMS is proud to be a fast growing student society at the University of Newcastle and is looking forward to strengthening in the future.
