Our Partners

The Science and Engineering Challenge (SEC) is one of Australia's longest-running STEM engagement programs, built upon strong foundations and respectful, mutually-beneficial partnerships. Each year, hundreds of partners support the SEC including Rotary Clubs, universities, schools, businesses, industry, professional groups and individuals. This support usually comes in the form of financial or in-kind assistance delivered centrally in Newcastle or to local committees across Australia.

If you are interested in partnering with the SEC please contact us.

Rotary

Rotary have been a critical part of the SEC since its inception. The cooperation between Rotary and their communities is the key to ensuring successful events around Australia. In most regions, local Rotary clubs take the lead role in organising Challenge and Discovery Day events. They bring together local communities, businesses, schools, professional organisations and universities to support the Challenge financially and organisationally. Over 2,500 Rotarians also volunteer at events each year, which means many give up time from their jobs, businesses or families. One of the main reasons Rotary became involved with the SEC was because Rotary has a long history of working with young people, often in the area of the sciences.

University Partners

The SEC program began as a University of Newcastle outreach program in 2000 and is still based there. The University of Newcastle continues to provide staff, resources and a large amount of baseline funding to the program.

In addition to this, the SEC has partnered with almost 30 other universities around Australia to deliver Challenge Day and Discovery Day events in their local regions. These partnerships include funding, event management, logistics and/or staffing. This approach allows other universities to run Challenge events in their catchment areas.
