Welcome to the 2014 Academic year

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the 2014 Academic year.

As noted in my December 20 email, there was a lot that happened in 2013 with which we should be pleased: students' ratings of our teaching continued to rise (with many colleagues winning teaching awards); volume and quality of research output increased (including 40 colleagues publishing in A/A* journals); and some great external engagement and equity initiatives took place.

In terms of what 2014 holds, in the first few months:

  • the new Head of the Newcastle Business School will be appointed
  • the design/architect selected for the NeW Space building in the Newcastle CBD will be announced and this will begin a further round of consultation with staff over various interior design matters
  • the location of a new Sydney CBD "presence" will be finalised and announced

It will also be a significant year for research with the beginning of the 2015 ERA process while in teaching and learning a major focus will be the review of the Business School's undergraduate curricula.

I look forward to working with you in regard to these and various other matters.

Richard
