Resources for University Students

CareerHub: whilst most students know that CareerHub posts hundreds of job, internship and volunteer opportunities online, what many students don’t know is that they also offer on-campus help. Career Consultants are available at all campuses to help with resumes and job applications, or just general career advice. To find out more info, just head to the UoN website: https://www.newcastle.edu.au/current-students/support/careers-jobs-and-your-future

iLead Plus: this is an extracurricular program at UoN that allows student to develop leadership abilities. There are mentoring opportunities, events, speakers and plenty more on offer in this free program – something which I’d recommend to any student! https://www.newcastle.edu.au/study/ilead-plus-international-leadership/why-ilead-plus

Student Associations: There are a few student associations particularly targeted to Business and Commerce students that run events and post job opportunities for students. These include UoN BusCom (http://www.uonbuscom.com/), UNLSA (http://unlsa.com/) and the UON Economics and Finance Society (https://www.uonefs.org/)

Learning Development: Go onto Blackboard and click the Blackboard tab. Scroll down to ‘My Other Sites’ and click on Learning Development. Click on the ‘econsult’ tab. From here you can make an appointment by clicking on the CareerHub booking system. Upload your rubric and your assignment along with what you would like the Learning Development team to review. This may involve a variety of tasks, such as: reference checking, grammar, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure, how to better meet the rubric etc. You will be emailed a copy of your assignment with notes on it from the Learning Development team to your student mail.

Exchange and short-term study experiences: there are tons of overseas opportunities open to Uni students at UoN that can count towards your degree. There are grants and scholarships available for most experiences. You can find out more about this online: https://www.newcastle.edu.au/international/study-with-us/study-abroad-and-exchange/study-overseas
