Port Waratah Coal Takes on International Student

Port Waratah Coal Service is a great supporter of the Faculty of Business and Law and have, for the past four years, invited a Bachelor of Commerce, IEN Korean student to complete a work placement at their organisation. Each year the high achieving, Accouting student has benefitted from the experience, with three of four students staying on to work in Australian businesses as Accountants. Duties performed by placement students include processing of debtor invoices, low-value asset processing, visa statement reviews, capital approval processing and generally observing how financial systems function in the workplace.

This year's successful student is Ms Jinbok Kim. Jinbok has been in Newcastle for 12 months and lives in a homestay. Upon arrival, Jinbok found living in a new culture challenging, but has since taken advantage of the opportunities available to her including regular volunteering, PASS sessions and social activities to make friends. She now encourages all international students to "get involved"! Jinbok enjoys the opportunities "to communicate with a different culture" and is looking forward to working and learning at Port Waratah Coal Service.
