Supervisor’s Conversation Group

Calling all Academics!

You are invited to the inaugural Supervisor's Conversation Group

Where: The Oasis
When: Tuesday 25 March, 2pm - 4pm

Learning how to effectively supervise RHD students is a lifetime enterprise. We are co-facilitating a set of workshops for academics to enter a conversation about how to effectively supervise their students. The idea is to exchange experiences, exchange experiences and generally have an ongoing conversation about how we can enhance supervision.

The conversation will be supported by presentations from university academics from within and outside of the Faculty, as well as outside the university.

Beginning in the last week of March, meetings will be held bimonthly throughout 2014. Please come along to contribute to the discussions!

The first conversation will be supported by a dynamic duo that received the 2013 Vice Chancellor's Award for Supervision. Kevin Lyons and Tamara Young have generously offered to give up their valuable time to talk about their supervision experiences. This is a great opportunity to hear how they achieved supervision excellence!

Please rsvp Wendy Jones if you can come.We are keen to develop a collegiate group to provide support to supervisors – where they can ask questions and get some answers to the tricky issues that sometimes arise in supervision.

The following meeting will be held in May so watch this space for more information.

Finally, to get you thinking about the usefulness of this exercise, an article Suzanne Ryan circulated around the school last year is attached: Spiller, D., Byrnes, G, Ferguson, P.B. (2013). Enhancing postgraduate supervision through a process of conversational inquiry. Higher Education Research & Development. 32:5.

We hope to see you there!
