Widening Higher Education Participation Book Launch

Widening Higher Education Participation: A Global Perspective, edited by Mahsood Shah and Anna Bennett (English Language and Foundation Studies Centre), and Erica Southgate (School of Education) was officially launched by Professor Richard James (Pro Vice Chancellor- Academic, University of Melbourne) on Friday 5 February 2016. The event was a great success with over 50 people from various sections of the University of Newcastle and elsewhere attending.

Professor James provided an informative introduction to the book and praised the editors for their efforts in gaining rich contributions from a broad selection of international experts in widening participation.

Recent grant announcements

Congratulations to Anna Bennett who is part of a successful Higher Education Participation Program National Priority Project proposal looking at undertaking a comparative evaluation of the efficacy of the equity strategies employed by Australian Universities.

The project is being led by Central Queensland University in partnership with Federation University Australia, University of the Sunshine Coast, University of Newcastle, La Trobe University and James Cook University, and aims to build the evidence concerning the efficacy of the equity strategies employed by Australian universities which are aimed at improving opportunities and the success in higher education by people from low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds.

The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, Churchill Fellowships are currently open. Churchill Fellowships provide the opportunity to travel internationally to conduct research in order to bring back knowledge, experience, ideas and innovation.
