Since 1989, our Central Coast campus has delivered educational excellence to thousands of students in the region. From 2015, our Central Coast campus at Ourimbah will be complemented by our brand new facility in Gosford, housed in the state-of-the-art 'Kibbleplex' in the heart of the CBD. This technology-rich, next-generation facility will incorporate library, learning and innovation spaces and ensure even more people in Gosford and across the Central Coast can access the benefits of a world-class university education.

Central Coast researcher in the School of Environmental and Life Sciences, Dr Chris Scarlett, played an integral part in the largest collaborative pancreatic cancer study ever undertaken which will have a massive impact on the way pancreatic cancer patients are treated.

Our Central Coast campus offers modern facilities with a beautiful bushland backdrop. More than $20 million has recently been spent building new state-of-the-art facilities on-campus including new teaching and learning spaces for our degrees in exercise and sport science, teaching and nursing. The library has also received a substantial extension including a new 24-hour access computer lab.

World-class research

The University of Newcastle is known for outstanding success in research.

Our researchers lead the world in fields as diverse as geotechnical science and engineering, energy and resources, reproductive biology, plant biology, applied mathematics, and health and medical sciences.

Newcastle physical chemist researcher, Associate Professor Rob Atkin, is making an important contribution to the development of better and potentially greener industrial liquids.

Professor Clare Collins

Newcastle researcher Professor Clare Collins is leading the fight against obesity in Australia through her research on optimising dietary intake. She has also been an off-camera consultant to the popular weight loss television program The Biggest Loser and has contributed to six books on weight loss.

Matt Dunn

“Research is a great career for someone who is self-motivated. I love the combination of the mental challenge involved in reading literature, designing experiments and analysing results, along with the physical execution of laboratory work and the very meticulous skills that requires.”

Newcastle PhD student Matt Dunn is using his skills in biochemistry and protein analysis to investigate the effects of new anti-cancer drugs on leukaemia and breast cancer.

Our graduates
get jobs

Having a degree from the University of Newcastle gives our students a qualification with lasting value. We produce successful, well-equipped graduates who are in demand.

Nearly three quarters (73 per cent) of our bachelor degree graduates find a full-time job within four months of completing their qualification. The median starting salary for our bachelor degree graduates is $2,000 higher than the national average. Our highest earning first year bachelor degree graduates are engineers, with salaries as high as $67,000 per annum.

Linda Bergskas

Set on 140 hectares of bushland, our Newcastle campus is regarded as one of the most naturally beautiful in Australia. State-of-the-art facilities surrounded by native trees and wildlife - create a work and study environment like none other.

Newcastle City campus

We have two sites in the Newcastle CBD. The Conservatorium (part of our School of Creative Arts) is located near the Civic Centre precinct, while the Newcastle Legal Centre and Newcastle Business School are located in University House opposite Civic Park - both just steps away from cafes and boutiques on Newcastle's famous Darby Street.

You'll find our Port Macquarie campus in the heart of this growing seaside town located on the picturesque NSW Mid North Coast. The campus is shared by the University of Newcastle and TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute.
