30th Anniversary News, Highlights and Events
2013 will see the 30 year anniversary for Wollotuka which commenced as a small enclave, providing cultural support to Indigenous students in an alien learning environment to an Institute providing outstanding outcomes in Indigenous student engagement and leadership, teaching, research, community engagement and Indigenous staff employment. Wollotuka will be celebrating all year with a number of significant events which will honour Indigenous people who have walked before us and events which will highlight the strengths of Wollotuka today. Wollotuka Reconciliation Scholarship Ball 2013
The purpose of this event is to foster and build relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and businesses with a passion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education as well as raise money for the University 's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Fund which assists Indigenous students through full-time study, in particular those who are not eligible for Commonwealth assistance. The scholarship has been established through contributions from the University, staff, industry donors, community organisation as well as funds raised from this event.

5 February 2013 - Book Launch of "Our Voices: Aboriginal & Torres Straitslander Social Work"
Our Voices is a ground-breaking collection of writings from Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous social work educators and students who, through a process of hypothesising, reflecting and evaluating, have built and acquired a took kit of appropriate behaviours, interactions, networks and intervention.
The book was launched by former Social Justice Commissioner,Dr Tom Calma at The Wollotuka Institute, University of Newcastle. The Wollotuka Institute authors, Dr Stephanie Gilbert and Karen Menzies, were available to meet guests and sign copies of the book.
