A number of general access computing laboratories are available across the University of Newcastle campuses.

Special purpose laboratories may also be available in your Faculty or School.
A range of popular software packages including word processing, spreadsheet, database and statistical packages is available, along with specialised teaching packages. Printing facilities are available from all labs.
IBM-PC compatible computers (PCs) are available in the Computing Labs supported by IT Services. The PCs in the labs are connected to a Windows Server. Various software packages are provided, which allow access to word processing, databases, spreadsheets, mathematical, graphical and statistical packages.
Macintosh computers are also available in the Computer Laboratories for student access and are located in CT213 and in the AIC - Auchmuty Library.
Starting The PC
Press the POWER switch to turn on the PC. The PC will boot from the network. Wait for the PC to boot up and you will be presented with the initial Windows XP login screen.
To Login to the Local PC Server
1. Press Alt + Ctrl + Delete
2. You will be presented with a login dialogue box
3. Enter your Username and Password (Logging using your Internet username/password)
4. Make Sure Uncle is selected from the Drop down menu in the Domain box.
Backing Up Your Files to Portable Storage
It is important to make backup copies of your work to removable media. There is no Temp drive in any of the labs. Once you log out all work on saved on the C: drive will be DELETED.

Logging Out
When you have finished, it is essential that you log off the computer that you are working on to prevent other users gaining access to your printing account. To exit your session, choose Start - Logoff.
Terms and Condition for Using the Computing Laboratories
All use of laboratories must be in accordance with the Use of University Computing and Communication Faciltities. Any local rules specific to laboratories must also be observed. Breaching the terms and conditions of use may result in removal of access to facilities and/or disciplinary action.
