The Internet service is used to access information and electronic resources located outside the University of Newcastle network. Primarily this is done using your web browser software (such as Firefox).
Internet acces must be activated by accepting the terms and conditions at Online Services. Access to the Internet is through Australia's academic and research network, AARNET. It is bound by AARNET's Policy on Allowed Access and by University policies on access, in particular on the Use of Computing and Communications Facilities and the Guidelines for Acceptable Use of The Internet.
Breaching the terms and conditions of use may result in disconnection of your service and/or disciplinary action.
If you are connecting to the University remotely using the University dial-in modem service, it is recommended that you configure your web browser's proxy settings to access library databases and web pages.
An internet content filter is a piece of software that helps manage access to online content on your home computer.
Internet content filters offer a range of different functions to block, screen or monitor unwanted material. Unfortunately, there is no single action or internet content filter that does everything and it is not advisable to have two or more internet content filters installed on your computer at the same time.
To find out more about Internet Filters, and to download a free filter, visit the Australian Government NetAlert website.
