IT Transistion Management
Transition covers part of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) Service Support set.
ITIL® is the most widely accepted approach to IT service management in the world and provides a cohesive set of best practices, drawn from the public and private sectors internationally.
The objective of transition management is to ensure that standardised methods and procedures are used for efficient and prompt handling of changes, in order to minimise the impact of related incidents or problems upon IT service quality and so improve the day-to-day operations of the University.
Specifically, IT Transition Management at the University of Newcastle coordinates;

Release Management
Problem Management
Change Management
The goal of IT Change Management is to ensure that standardised methods and procedures are used for efficient and prompt handling of all changes, in order to minimise the impact of any related incidents upon service.
Release Management
The goal of IT Release Management is to take an holistic view of a change to an IT service, and ensure that all aspects of a release, both technical and non-technical, are considered together.
Problem Management
The goal of Problem Management is to minimise the adverse effect on the business of incidents and problems caused by errors in the infrastructure and to proactively prevent the occurrence of incidents, problems and errors.
Transition and IT Service Groups
IT Transition Management works closely with a number of IT Services’ groups to achieve the highest quality IT Change Management services to the University of Newcastle.
These groups include:
Change Advisory Board (CAB)
The Change Advisory Board is chaired by the Transition Coordinator and is an authoritative and representative forum who is responsible for assessing, from both a business and a technical viewpoint, all significant and major Requests for Change (RFCs). They advise Transition on the priorities of RFCs and propose allocations of resources to implement those changes.
Architecture Advisory Group (AAG)
Project Management Office (PMO)
The role of the Project Management Office (PMO) at the University of Newcastle is to enable successful project delivery by establishing, implementing, monitoring, and measuring effective project management standards, methodology and processes.
The Project Management Office also acts as the central management function for Program of Work (PoW) projects and reports to the IT Governance Committee.
