Healthy UoN
Welcome to Healthy UoN, the staff health and wellness program at the University of Newcastle.
We offer something for everyone – including conjoints, research higher degree students and families of staff members!
The University of Newcastle is committed to promoting health and wellness opportunities for its staff. Supporting this, the University of Newcastle has joined with a range of excellent service providers, including its own leaders in the field, to offer a variety of events, activities and opportunities which aim to improve the quality of life and balance the issue of work-leisure time. Since 2008, Healthy UoN (formerally Wellness@UoN) has been encouraging staff and their families and friends to engage in their community, and brings news and ideas to help shape connections.
Wellness is more than physical fitness. It encompasses mental, physical, social, spiritual and even financial balance. It includes creativity, mindfulness and self-care. It is about the individual, the family and the other people in our lives. Some of the strongest predictors of general wellbeing include high staisfaction with overall quality of working life, good sleep, good work-life balance, low anxiety, family suppport for work commitments, good health, high motivation, low stress and good work relationships. (QoWL, 2008)
