Working with Children check

The new Working With Children Check will start in NSW on 15 June 2013

How does this affect me?

If you work or volunteer with children or you manage someone in child-related work, there are key differences between the current and new Check systems which you need to know about.

Do I need to apply?

Staff currently employed in child-related work and all volunteers will not need to apply straight away. They will be phased in over the next five years, depending on their industry sector.  The phase in schedule is attached for your reference: http://kids.nsw.gov.au/uploads/documents/Phase_in_schedule.pdf

If you start a new child-related role on or after 15 June 2013, you will need to apply for a new Check before you start work. Applications for the new Check will be available from 15 June 2013.

UoN Employment Pack

University Appointment coordinators and Executive Officers will need to ensure that all new staff from 15 June 2013, who have face-to-face contact with children (supervised or unsupervised), apply for a Working with Children Clearance number.  These numbers will then be submitted to HRS via the 'New Working with Children Check Clearance Number form' included in the UoN Employment pack. The form will be available from 8 June 2013.
