Industry Scholarships announces new agreement with NAB

Industry Scholarships has announced a new and ongoing partnership with the National Australia Bank (NAB) to provide Industry Scholarships to eight final-year students.

This is a professional development opportunity for students to gain industry-based experience in the corporate banking sector.

Angela Samuels, Manager of the Industry Scholarships Program at the University, said: “It is fantastic that an iconic organisation like the NAB is engaging with the University of Newcastle to build their next generation of professional staff. This collaboration gives eight scholars a distinctive advantage that will enhance the student experience and enable them to be more graduate ready.”

“This opportunity is a unique arrangement between the University of Newcastle and the NAB. Previously this type of opportunity has been offered as part of a NAB Graduate program, targeting capital city University students and offering placements only in Australian capital cities.”

Mark Collison, NAB Business Banking Executive in Newcastle, said: “We are excited to partner with Newcastle University to offer scholarships to students who are interested in pursuing a career in the banking and finance industry.”

“This is a great opportunity for NAB to develop stronger links with a world-class institution such as the University of Newcastle, to support local students, and to help attract new and diverse employees into our business.”

The scholarships are available to eligible students from a diverse range of faculties and degrees. They include two days’ work based placement at NAB each week for six months, with the potential for an offer of employment at the end of the program.

“Industry Scholarship students will undertake a variety of bank-specific work experience activities in the retail and branch network. They will also learn general business banking and financial analysis skills, undergo internal training, take part in networking sessions and spend time at NAB’s Sydney head office,” said Mr Collison.

Ms Samuels said “We look forward to facilitating a pathway for students to integrate their learning and gain experience with NAB. It is exciting that we have established a business relationship with NAB and welcome them as an Industry Sponsor.”
