Looking our best to go live
In a few short weeks, the first pages of the new web site will go live. This is a critical milestone - the culmination of many hundreds of hours work - and it is as exciting as it will be challenging.
From 3 April, the home page, the research area and staff profiles will go live on the new web site. There will be obvious design improvements, additional functionality and visitors will see significant changes when accessing the web site on their smartphones or tablet. Over the next nine months while we transition to the new site, there will be two web sites running simultaneously, with some content on the old site and some on the new site.
As the big day edges closer, the project team is working through the long 'to do' list and they need your help to make sure our web site looks its best when we go live with our first phase.
1. Get your profile in order
New look staff profile pages (find out more below) will go live in Phase 1. Please take five minutes and check and update your details:
2. Keep us posted
Until December 2013, visitors will be automatically redirected between the new and the old pages. While our aim is for this transition to be as seamless as possible, we do anticipate the odd bump in the road, so we ask for your understanding and your support. You can help us by letting us know of any issues at email@example.com.
3. Get excited!
You've heard about a new web site for a long time. Now it's nearly here so it's time to get excited!
Also, watch this space for a chance to win in our upcoming "Find Yourself!" competition, where we will ask you to review your staff profile page.
New and improved staff and researcher profile pages
Staff and researcher profile pages have been revamped and these pages are being rolled out in the first phase of the new web site.
An exciting feature of the new design is that each profile page will have its own Short URL which staff can use in their own communications (eg. www.newcastle.edu.au/profile/bill-hogarth)
Other improvements include:
- 'edit my details' link at the top of each profile page, taking you directly to HR Online or RPM
- links to media coverage and research networks (where applicable)
- highlights page for Researchers who have featured in University publications (as pictured above left).
NOTE: HR Online and RPM feed information into the web site automatically. Updated information will refresh overnight, meaning changes should be visible within 24 hours.
