AGS data shows hard work pays off

Dear colleagues,

I am delighted to share with you some encouraging news about our latest results from the 2012 Australian Graduate Survey (AGS). 

As you know, the AGS is the official national survey of activities of graduates who have recently completed the requirements for their qualification and comprises two parts - the Graduate Destination Survey (GDS) and the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ).  The CEQ measures the student experience of their program using three scales and is used in a range of ranking systems and websites.

Over the past two years you have worked hard to improve teaching and learning and overall student satisfaction.  The results of the AGS demonstrate that your hard work is paying off:

  • We have moved into the top half of Australian institutions for overall student satisfaction.
  • Students have noticed the significant improvement in our teaching, now rating us in the upper quarter of Australian universities on the AGS Good Teaching Scale.
  • Finally, we are delivering outcomes to equip our students well for the future workforce, with students rating the generic skills they acquire during their programs among the best in the sector.

What have we done to achieve these results?  We have listened to our students, addressed their feedback and focused attention on improving student learning, teaching and the overall University experience.  We have invested substantial resources to improve courses and degrees and committed ourselves to extensive work across the University to enhance facilities and student support services. 

Congratulations.  This is a major achievement over the last two years and a sound base on which to build further improvements.

Every time our students complete a survey it impacts on how we enhance their experience at the University. Please continue to encourage your students to provide their comments across the year. Their feedback will help us improve the University experience across all measures.

Our New Directions Strategic Plan reinforces our commitment to provide an outstanding student experience on and off-campus, providing opportunities for our students to engage not only in their learning, but also in research, work or community-focused activities.
