Vicki Picasso on Open access, teaching and research
Open Access is the immediate, free of charge, online access to research articles. Users are able to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search for and link to the full text of open access articles. Open access provides a way to promote broader access to academic research outputs by scholars, students, professionals and the general public. Open access to online information applies to three main areas: teaching and learning (e.g. Open Education Resources, or OER), research, and research data.
UoN is one of the few Australian universities with an open access policy and Vicki Picasso, Senior Librarian Research Support and Discovery Services, is the Manager of UoN's NOVA Open Access repository. Come and hear Vicki lead a discussion on open access and the merits and possibilities of an open access approach to teaching and learning and research. Tea and coffee will be provided.
