University of Newcastle Three Minute Thesis Final
The History
The ‘Three Minute Thesis’ was initiated by the University of Queensland in 2008. Due to the enthusiasm for the Three Minute Thesis concept it was adopted in numerous universities leading to the Inaugural Australia & New Zealand Three Minute Thesis competition, held at UQ in 2010. The success of the Three Minute Thesis competition has seen it grow to include 43 universities in 2012 and its adoption by other countries internationally.
The Challenge
Current research higher degree students from all faculties at the University of Newcastle have three minutes to explain their research to a non-specialist audience. Competitors are allowed a single, static powerpoint slide and are judged on communication, comprehension and engagement. Students are competing for a range of prizes and a chance to progress to the National/Trans Tasman final held at University of Western Sydney on Friday 18 October 2013.
