Did You Know?

Spirit of the GCC Award

The Spirit of The GCC Award is designed to recognise participants who wholeheartedly embrace this year's GCC. During the challenge participants across the globe will be rewarded for their achievements, enthusiasm or improvements and 70 selected winners each week will receive a piece of sought after GCC merchandise including GCC t-shirts and limited edition GCC Pulses!

If you have a nomination for this award please email diane.bunch@newcastle.edu.au the participants name, email address and the reason they should receive a Spirit of GCC award.

Zumba Fitness is a global lifestyle brand that fuses fitness, entertainment and culture into an exhilarating dance-fitness.

Ergonomics and Massage

Ergonomic training teaches you the skills to set up your workstation correctly. Learn about the spine and why you experience neck and shoulder pain at your workstation. You can obtain a free 3 - 15 minute neck and shoulder massage during the course.

Developing Resilience

What is resilience? Resilient individuals are those who have the capacity to withstand stressors, as well as knowing when a situation is irreparable. Those who are resilient demonstrate dynamic self-renewal, rather than finding themselves worn down and negatively impacted by life stressors. They are people who have a tendency to see problems as opportunities and who have the capacity to recognise small windows of opportunity and make the most of them. Resilient people have the wherewithal to competently handle most different kinds of situations.

Date: Tuesday 16 July

Time: 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Venue: Canberra Meeting room, Chancellery building, Callaghan


Tai Chi

Research indicates that attention to physical fitness enhances mental agility. We also become less stressed and cope better with problems. This 6 day program of Tai Chi - Qigong is aimed at beginners.

Beginners are first taught Shabashi 1 & 2, sets of 18 exercises each & the foundation of the tai chi form. From these beginnings you learn all 108 movements of the Khor Yang Style Tai Chi Form over 6 terms as well as specialised Qigong exercises.

Date: 6 weeks beginning 6 August

Time: 12 - 1 pm
