Industry Scholarships within UoN
Industry scholar and Master of Business Administration student, Matt Nelson, is gearing up for his full year placement with GradSchool, kicking off in January 2014.
Matt, who currently does work with the University's IT Department, is the first Industry Scholar from a masters program and will begin his placement in January 2014.
"The flexibility and chance to gain some real world experience putting what I have learnt into practice makes the scholarship so valuable to me," Matt said.
"I'll be working on search engine optimisation (SEO) and other digital marketing aspects. My background working in IT here at the uni will be an advantage."
GradSchool Digital Marketing and Recruitment Coordinator, Sky Lavelle, said the opportunity to work with a student of Matt's experience who is familiar with theUniversity was a major benefit to his team.
"Being able to tap into the talent we already have here at the University of Newcastle makes sense, Matt knows the systems and is familiar with the way the university operates. Bringing Matt on board has been a real coup for us," Sky said.
Matt is just one of the Industry Scholars who has secured placement within the University- scholars are excelling at TUNRA Bulk Solids within the Newcastle Institute of Energy and Resources (NIER), UoN Art Gallery, Newcastle Innovation, and UoN Services.
"Our Industry Scholars are bringing fresh and exciting ideas to the University," Angela Samuels said.
"We have such a depth of talent to draw from within the University student population," she said. "With UoN Services alone we have three dedicated students enacting innovative ideas including working towards sustainable energy use on campus, community fundraising and awareness campaigns and events, marketing and communications for the orgainsation."
There will be three new scholarships for semester 3 at UoN Services - a ResLife Engagement Scholar, ResLife Support Scholar and Central Coast Engagement Scholar.
