University of Newcastle Three Minute Thesis Final
The ‘Three Minute Thesis’ was initiated by the University of Queensland in 2008. Due to the enthusiasm for the Three Minute Thesis concept it was adopted in numerous universities leading to the Inaugural Australia & New Zealand Three Minute Thesis competition, held at UQ in 2010.
In 2010 the University of Newcastle and had great success with Gabrielle Briggs taking out second place at the National finals. In 2011 our representative from Newcastle, Jamie Flynn, came in the top ten at the national level.
Current research higher degree students from all faculties at the University of Newcastle have three minutes to explain their research to a non-specialist audience. Competitors are allowed a single, static powerpoint slide and are judged on communication, comprehension and engagement. Students are competing for a range of prizes and a chance to progress to the National/Trans Tasman final held at University of Queensland on Thursday 11 October 2012.
