2012 Your Voice Sample Survey

What is the Your Voice Survey?

The Your Voice Survey is an opportunity for University of Newcastle staff to share their experiences on a range of topics. The survey is run in full every three years with the next survey due in 2013. As part of the NeW Directions planning process in 2012 we are conducting a brief version of the survey with a sample of staff.

Who needs to complete the survey?

Invitations will be sent by email to a sample of staff on 17 September. The survey will invite 50% of full time continuing staff and 25% of casual, contract and sessional staff to share their voice by responding to the survey.  The sample will be selected to ensure we have a cross-section of people from all faculties/divisions and locations. The online survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Is it confidential?

Your responses will be completely confidential and anonymous. The survey is being conducted by an organisation independent of the University to ensure confidentiality.  UoN will not know which staff received an invitation to participate or who completed the survey.

To protect confidentiality of reporting, if a unit or area has only a few responses, these responses will be merged with other like areas so no individual can be identified.

How will the results be used?

All responses and any comments you provide will be analysed by the Voice Project, an offsite consulting company.  Results will be benchmarked with the results of our previous surveys and those of comparable universities.  The results will give us a timely ‘health check’ on how our staff are feeling, and will enable us to evaluate whether our initiatives are working and to develop future action plans.

How were the results used from the 2010 survey?

We are listening. The 2010 Your Voice Survey results have heavily influenced UoN policy, procedure and vision, and continue to do so.  In particular, steps have been taken to improve communication within and between all levels of our organisation. When is it happening?

The survey will be running from Monday 17 September to Monday 1 October.  If you are selected to be in the sample, you will receive your invitation to participate by email on 17 September. Remember, that we are listening for your experience as told in your voice.
