UoN Quick Tour: Student and Academic Services

Just what is Student and Academic Services (SAS) responsible for?  In case you didn’t know, SAS offers an incredibly wide range of services, including:

  • managing admissions
  • keeping students records
  • running the Student Hubs
  • providing careers advice, personal counselling, disability support, and health  services (amongst many others)
  • staffing the 15000 UoN enquiries service and supplying the answers to AskUoN
  • administering exams
  • organising orientation and other activities to improve the student experience such as Connect2Success, PASS and student mentoring
  • making graduation ceremonies happen across all our locations – including Singapore
  • developing and maintaining systems to support students, courses and programs
  • providing secretarial support to University committees and advising the University community on policy
  • and the list goes on!

Student and Academic Services, led by Gail White, oversees all of these activities.  In the coming issues of In the Loop, we’ll be highlighting different areas of Student and Academic Services and giving you some interesting facts and figures that may surprise you.

To start off, the Health Service conducts over 27,000 individual consultations every year.  This service is for domestic and international students, staff, and their families.

Check the next editions of In the Loop to find out:

  • about Careerhub - our online careers resource
  • about the logistics of organising 87,000 exam sittings each year
  • the role of SAS  in the Adverse Circumstances process.
