Business Intelligence: helping UON deliver its Vision
Congratulations to Planning, Quality and Reporting (PQR) on the recent launch of the Management Information System (MIS) Portal.
PQR can now provide authorised staff with business intelligence to facilitate the University's pursuit of the 'NeW Directions 2025 Vision and strategy.
What is business intelligence?
Business intelligence at UON is the process of informing and supporting decision making using information from all areas of the University and the sector. This is presented via the MIS Portal. Staff can then use this information and knowledge to make quicker and more effective decisions.
How does it all work?
The MIS Portal is easy to use, interactive, and provides immediate and real-time information.
The MIS contains a data warehouse that collects data from a variety of University systems on a daily basis, and from external national and international data sources. Authorised staff can then access the structured information products via the MIS Portal dashboard. To do this they can select a standard mix of information or can compose a presentation that suits their particular needs. An example is student enrolments by faculty and campus.
This first phase of the MIS Portal project has provided Portal access to information on student enrolments and load. The next three phases are developing business intelligence capabilities for student performance (retention and success), research and survey information. Ultimately staff will access the whole range of strategically relevant information and knowledge to help deliver the NeW Directions 2025 Vision for the University.

Who can use the MIS Portal?
Users currently include the Executive Committee, Heads of School, Executive Officers, Assistant Deans, Program Convenors, and nominated staff in areas such as Student Administration, Research, GradSchool and International Office, and staff are gradually being added to the user list. As staff are provided access they will receive an email containing information about logging on and training options.
PQR are also conducting road shows and are available for one-on-one training at your request.
