Advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competency
The University values equality and respect in education, research, employment, cultural inclusion and the celebration of diverse cultures and successes.
Participation of our teaching and professional staff in cultural competency training is an important way for staff to develop the skills, values and critical reflection to enable them to work more effectively within intercultural contexts.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Competency workshops promote greater knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through:
Academic Workshops
These workshops focus on:
- teaching and learning
- teaching and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander content to non-Aboriginal students
- communication and community engagement.
Professional Staff Workshops
These workshops focus on:
- communication
- cultural perspectives
- supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples students; and
- working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Staff will have the opportunity to identify strategies and actions to contribute to the University's priority of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Collaboration.
