Two Generations - 20 years of contemporary Chinese art
From March 30 - May 5, the University of Newcastle will be hosting an exhibition of some of China's best contemporary artists as part of 'Experience China - The Year of Chinese Culture in Australia'.
Two Generations is staged by the iconic Red Gate Gallery - the most respected contemporary art gallery in China - and features work of 11 senior Red Gate artists who have each nominated a young emerging artist. The works of the two generations of artists will be exhibited side by side to celebrate the achievement of one generation and to herald the promise of the next.
The City Weekend Magazine, Beijing says the "contrast between the works is dizzying and inspiring". Indeed, audiences are in for a visual treat!
The exhibition is a result of partnerships, collaborations and ongoing reciprocal cultural exchange between Australian and Chinese contemporary artists, curators, galleries, businesses, educational institutions, government departments and media organisations.
The Confucius Institute is proud to be a major national sponsor of this exhibition. As part of the University's commitment to enhancing the understanding of Chinese language and culture within Australia, the Confucius Institute is pleased to support this exhibition and the vital and expanding links between Australia and China.
The University Gallery provides an energetic space for the presentation, promotion and discussion of artistic and cultural developments and achievements in the Newcastle and Hunter regions.
