Taking care of students in the field

No matter where students learn, we want this to be enjoyable and occur in a safe environment.

Did you know that if you have students in your care then you have an increased responsibility for their safety and wellness?

This particularly applies when you are arranging fieldwork, fieldtrips, or excursion activities for students. To help ensure these experience are safe and enjoyable, the University has the following guidelines:

  • These kinds of activities should always undergo an approval process prior, via the completion of an E2/OSA Form
  • Students should complete a Fieldwork Medical Information Sheet that lists an emergency contact person and any relevant medical information, and provide this to the Course Coordinator
  • When preparing for offsite activities, consideration should always be given to ensuring that students are briefed of all requirements relating to participating in the activity safely (including taking along suitable and adequate clothing, sunscreen, and water), and
  • Students should be made aware of procedures to be followed in the event of something not proceeding to plan.
