Book of 'heart-rending sorrow' to launch in Newcastle
ABC's Radio National, major Australian newspapers and literary luminaries know full well about the achievements of our casual Creative Writing academic, RHD student and graduate, Michael Sala.
He has excited industry insiders for a number of years and is now on the brink of launching his widely anticipated first book, The Last Thread, in Newcastle. This autobiographical novel is an account of a turbulent childhood through the eyes of a young boy called Michaelis, a character based on Sala himself. Focussed on his life growing up in Newcastle in the 1980s after moving from the Netherlands, the memoir explores the damaging saga of family myth-making.
Raimond Gaita, award winning author of Romulus My Father, says Sala “has a rare gift: in prose that takes your breath away, he tells a story of heart-rending sorrow without a trace of sentimentality.”
Help Sala and the University celebrate this great achievement by attending his book launch Thursday 15 March at the Hunter Writers Centre from 5.30pm. Download your invitation here.
The Last Thread is published by Affirm Press.
