About the Centre
Bringing together a wide range of academic expertise, the English Language and Foundation Studies Centre (ELFSC) is part of the University of Newcastle's Academic Division and incorporates the Language Centre and Foundation Studies. Our staff is dedicated to serving over 3000 students each year. Our programs provide both Australian and international students with an exciting range of academic options for study in a supportive educational environment.
Helping people achieve their dream of tertiary study
We are proud of the achievements of our students. Each year they make up a large proportion of commencing undergraduate and postgraduate students From the platform of readiness for university study they establish in their preparatory program, our students go on to participate and often excel in the programs of their choice. Today there are many thousands of people who had their start in a new and rewarding career through one of the Centre's enabling or international programs.
Leading enabling research
Over time the Centre has been established as a national leader in the research field of enabling education. We seek to strengthen the research base of enabling education in order to facilitate evidence-based practice and policy-making, and to contribute to debates around access and equity in the new Information society.
