Awards and Recognition

The Leadership Award

The Leadership Award, presented by The University of Newcastle, aims to recognise and encourage emerging leaders in the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid North Coast regions, and to provide the winner with additional training and support in a Leadership program.

The Award recipient will receive a package of prizes including participation in a mentored leadership program and a $10,000 leadership development scholarship of the winner's choice.

Candidates are nominated for the award through a written submission addressing the Award criteria. A panel of judges, comprised of community leaders from across the region, will identify the finalists. All finalists will be interviewed by the judging panel.

Nominees should be:
- Aged less than 35 years on January 1, 2008
- Living and working in the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid North Coast regions, New South Wales

In completing the application, the candidates must demonstrate leadership within their profession and the community. Community leadership can include volunteering, charity work, not for profit organisations, coaching and sporting contributions etc.

Alumni (Convocation) Awards

The University of Newcastle recognises and celebrates the contributions and success of our growing Alumni community.

The 'Newton-John Award', named after former Vice-Principal of the University, Brin Newton-John, is given to a graduate who has displayed innovation or creativity in any field.

The 'Convocation Medal for Professional Excellence' is awarded to a graduate for outstanding leadership, knowledge and professional practice. The winner of each award will be announced at an awards ceremony in October.

The purpose of the awards is to recognise the innovation, leadership and involvement of Alumni within, not simply their professions, well as in the community.

We encourage everyone who knows a graduate who meets the eligibility criteria to nominate them.
