Our Commitment to Engagement

The University of Newcastle is deeply committed to effective community engagement. This commitment is reflected in the University's vision and in its statement of purpose as expressed in the Institutional Strategic Plan 2007-2011. Effective community engagement is a guiding principle for the University, a critical success factor for the organisation and it is considered key to being a University of distinction.

Types of Engagement

Teaching and Learning

Engaged teaching and learning addresses both the needs of communities as well as the students' needs of becoming knowledgeable, work-ready, society-ready and active citizens in a global world. Staff, students and the community work together on issues that contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning and which builds capacity within the community.
