The Program
UNISS is an opportunity for students to make significant contributions to a work environment and at the same time experience the culture and ethics of the workplace. The program is structured so that students are either on placement or studying. This allows them to focus on one aspect of their program at a time. Currently, the majority of UNISS scholarships are over a five year period.
One of the key elements of UNISS is the fourth year, in which scholars work full time with their sponsor industry. During this placement, scholars take on a meaningful role within the organisation, undertaking all the responsibilities associated with being a practising professional. This intensive experience, combined with a world-class qualification from the University of Newcastle, provides UNISS graduates with an advantage in an increasingly competitive employment market. It is this unique combination of high academic standards and relevant, meaningful industry experience that makes UNISS the leader in preparing professionals for their role in industry.
Available Scholarships
As UNISS scholarships are fully funded by industry, available scholarships are likely to vary each year.
Scholarships are potentially available in the programs offered by the Faculties of Engineering & the Built Environment, Science & Information Technology, Health, and Business & Law. For example, degree programs offered may include Business, Marketing, Finance, Health, Science and Information Technology. As scholarships become available, they will be listed on the website; please check regularly for updates.

The Professional Benefits
The benefits of being a UNISS scholar are twofold: financial support while studying and the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience. Our sponsors are committed to encouraging your development, which means that while on placement you are given real responsibilities and the opportunity to contribute to the organisation. You are not simply spending time with an organisation; you are learning how the corporate world operates while developing the skills necessary to be successful in your chosen profession.
Our scholars have found that their placement blocks with their sponsor reinforce their theoretical knowledge through practical application and enhance their learning experience. UNISS helps you to reach your full academic potential.
The Financial Benefit
The scholar payment schedule depends on the type of UNISS scholarship being offered. In 2008, the Scholarship values range from $50,000 - $80,000. Currently, the majority of UNISS scholarships are paid over a five-year period and are for the duration of the undergraduate program of study. In the future the structure will be reviewed to allow additional flexibility for sponsors.
