Are you Eligible?

To be a successful UNISS scholar you need to be intelligent, resourceful, articulate, committed to the profession, and enthusiastic about your industry placement.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible you need to be:

  • available to attend Information Day and interviews (24-25 November)
  • enrolled as a full time student
  • a first year student, and
  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident

Selection Criteria

Academic performance is one criterion for selection and, as a guide, applicants are expected to obtain a UAI score approximately ten points above the advertised cut-off for the relevant degree program. Other selection criteria include leadership, teamwork, dedication, motivation and enthusiasm for a career in the relevant profession.

Selection Process

Applications close on 30 September 2008

Applications are reviewed by academic staff from the relevant disciplines, together with industry sponsors. Normally, at least four applicants are shortlisted for each scholarship on offer. Shortlisted applicants attend an information evening at the University of Newcastle and are interviewed the following day.

You will be considered on your written application and performance at interview. Panel members involved in the interview process include academic staff, industry representatives and an independent person. The interview aims to gain insight into your aspirations, motivations and your understanding of the profession. The interviews are conducted in late November and successful applicants receive their scholarship offer before Christmas. Offers are made before UAI results are known, reinforcing the UNISS principle that scholarships are not awarded solely on academic achievement.
