University of Newcastle OS-HELP Policy


1. Application and Selection Process

1.1 To apply for OS-HELP assistance, students must:
  a) complete and submit the DEST “OS-HELP debt confirmation” form to the student enquiry counter in the student services centre.
  b) provide the letter of acceptance from the overseas institution for which they applied for an exchange program.
  c) provide the completed and signed Credit Agreement for Outgoing Student Exchange Program form.
  If b) and/or c) above are not available at the time of submitting the form, students must note in writing that they will be forthcoming.
1.2 Application closing dates will be 30 April for overseas study in Semester 2 and 31 October for overseas study in Semester 1 of the following year.
1.3 The criteria the University of Newcastle will use to assess students’ applications will be students’ cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) in order of merit. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a pass average, ie 4.0/7.0.
1.4 Applicants will be notified in writing or via studentmail of the outcome of the OS-HELP application within two months of the application closing date if all required documents have been provided. Offers will be made in writing and will remain current until the day prior to the date of departure overseas.

2. Payments

2.1 The amount of OS-HELP assistance to be paid to each student will be determined according to the amount requested by the applicant.
2.2 OS-HELP payments will be made to selected students via electronic funds transfer within two weeks after the successful applicant has accepted in writing the offer of OS-HELP.

3. Conditions

3.1 Information about the conditions of receiving OS-HELP will be provided to students at the time that OS-HELP is offered.

4. Appeals and Grievances

4.1 If a student is dissatisfied with decisions that the University has made with respect to OS-HELP, the student may access the University of Newcastle Student Grievance Procedures. http://www.newcastle.edu.au/study/grievance/policy/grievance_proc_students.html
