All students contribute towards the cost or their education. The amount students contribute depends upon when they commenced their studies.
If you are an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen and commenced your studies prior to 2005, you pay a student contribution towards the cost of your education via the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) which is part of the Government's HECS-HELP scheme. You will continue to contribute under the HECS-HELP scheme, until you complete this program or until the end of 2008. From that point onwards all Commonwealth Supported Students will be charged a common full amount for their student contributions (HECS). Most Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens must pay their student contribution (HECS) fully to the University.

The Australian Commonwealth Government have introduced a Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) which provides eligible students who commenced studies from 2005, with a loan to help pay their course fees. Payments on these loans may be deferred until their income reaches over $39,825.
There are three main types:
HECS-HELP for eligible Commonwealth Supported Students
FEE-HELP for eligible Fee Paying Students
OS-HELP for eligible Commonwealth Supported Students who want to study overseas.
A 20% loan fee applies to undergraduate FEE-HELP and OS-HELP loans. The FEE-HELP loan fee only applies for undergraduate fee paying courses of study. Over their lifetime, students will only be able to borrow up to a maximum of $80,000 (indexed each year) of FEE-HELP.
More information on the new Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) and how it can be paid can be found at: www.backingaustraliasfuture.gov.au/student_info.htm
